I have really enjoyed living here in Perth, Western Australia, but the circumstances of my life over the past couple of years have suggested to me that it is perhaps time to move on to life's next new adventure. This is one of the reasons why I started down the path to selling my life, but at the time I had no idea where that path was leading me.
For almost as long as I can remember, I have had goals, even when I never fully grasped the importance of doing so. I can clearly remember as a child watching a documentary about the life of Ernest Hemmingway. Hemmingway was a writer, born in 1899, who travelled the world extensively, and lived in many different places throughout his life.
While living in Paris he wrote his first novel, "The Sun Also Rises", in 1926. When the documentary covered this part of his life, it showed quite a lot of film of the Running Of The Bulls in Pamplona. I remember sitting and watching those people running wildly through the streets with bulls thundering around among them, and thinking to myself, "I'm going to do that one day!"
When I told my parents that they smiled and wished me luck. They were always supportive of anything my brother or myself wanted to do, but I don't know if they believed I would ever do it.
Well, as I sit and think about my reasons for this project, I am now in my mid-forties, and that day was probably well over 30 years ago. And I still haven't run with the bulls at Pamplona! There are a lot of other things too that I have often said I would to do, but as yet haven't done so.
It's time to put that right!
Over the years I have had a few jobs in sales that have included training courses on many aspects of business. And I have worked for myself in my own business, which requires a very particular attitude to succeed, and I have also read alot of books on personal development and succeeding in business.
One thing that I have discovered is universal throughout all this learning, is that having clear, well defined goals is of utmost importance. Without no idea of where you want to go, it really doesn't matter where you end up. But if you define exactly where you want to get to, and then make a consistent effort in that direction, you will eventually get there.
So where did the idea for 100goals100weeks come from?
During the course of ALife4Sale so many people emailed me to say that they had gone through similar experiences as I had, offering their support and encouragement, or asking for advice. I decided that something I wanted to do after the auction was to set up some sort of support forum for people like us, who had been "blindsided" by life.
I was asked many times what I wanted to do next, and spent quite a bit of time wondering what I really did want to do. I read a book that a friend gave me on property investing, and the goals section in the book struck a chord once again. I was asked on the Bulletin Board by one member if I had a "life list" that I wanted to achieve.
And I did have a list that I had written several years before, but I could not find it when I went searching for it.
These different ideas must have swirled around the back of my unconscious mind for a while, and one day, while talking with a friend about what I might like to do next, the idea just came out, pretty much fully formed, and it hit me. That was it! That's what I wanted to do! Achieve some of those goals that I had listed.
And so 100goals100weeks was born, the next step in life's big adventure.
