I was born in 1963 in Darlington Memorial Hospital, in the north east of England, and had a very
happy childhood growing up in the small market town of Barnard Castle.
After school I took a year off, and travelled to Israel to work on a kibbutz, and eventually
headed home via Egypt and much of Europe.
I went to college in Liverpool where I did a Bachelor of Education degree, specialising in teaching
Outdoor Education. This led on to working in outdoor centres all over the UK and in Europe. After working
for British Rail for a couple of years as a trainer of their youth trainees, I became a self-employed
trainer/facillitator. To supplement my income I also did a bit of buying and selling of cars and motorbikes.
After a couple of years of varying success I went into partnership with my good friend Bruce, and we
set up Scarborough Jet Skiing on the north-east coast at Scarborough. We ran this business for five summer seasons, and when I look back,
I reckon we had a pretty amazing time, filled with lots of hard work, but just as much fun and
laughter. In the winter months we ran all sorts of other businesses. We published magazines, ran
a couple of wedding cars, I worked for British Coal Enterprise as a job placement counsellor, and
did a bit of work as a kitchen fitter, among various other things.
When we sold the jet ski business I set up a cycle hire business, and the year after that worked as
assistant manager at Atlantis, the big outdoor swimming pool in Scarborough.
It was at this time that I first visited Australia, and after a second trip
down under a year later, decided to move there to live.
It was a pretty big step to take, and it was very challenging to sell pretty much everything I owned, but it was time for a new adventure
and I made the long move to Perth in Western Australia to start a new life.
Six years and a half years later, circumstances in my life resulted in the unusual decision to sell my life on eBay (see www.ALife4Sale.com for further details on that adventure), and now I find myself without any ties, and I am again feeling the urge to try something new ......
