I have just submitted my application for "The Best Job In The World". The job is being offered by Tourism Queensland, and this is an outline of what the job entails:

Tourism Queensland is seeking applicants for the best job in the world! The role of Island Caretaker is a six-month contract, based on luxurious Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef. It’s a live-in position with flexible working hours and key responsibilities include exploring the islands of the Great Barrier Reef to discover what the area has to offer. You’ll be required to report back on your adventures to Tourism Queensland headquarters in Brisbane (and the rest of the world) via weekly blogs, photo diary, video updates and ongoing media interviews. On offer is a unique opportunity to help promote the wondrous Islands of the Great Barrier Reef.
..."weekly blogs, photo diary, video updates and ongoing media interviews"... hmmm, sounds familiar - I think I could manage that!

BLOGS:

For the past year I have been writing a regular blog, first of all on a daily basis for my "ALife4Sale.com" project, and since that finished I have followed up with a regular blog on my new adventures since then, my quest to achieve 100 things I always wanted to do, in a period of 100 weeks. Take a look at my current blogs, and a whole history of my last six months of travel and goal achievement by clicking on either of the pictures below:

PHOTO DIARY:

Throughout the past six months I have carried a very trusty Canon Ixus 960IS, and have chronicled my adventures photographically. The camera is a bit travel-worn now, but still takes some awesome pictures. Here are a couple of recent favourites. Click on any of the pix below to go to the 100goals photo page, which shows the whole six month journey, latest pictures first, going right back to picking up my wallet and passport and departing Perth in August last year:

VIDEO UPDATES:

I have also been cataloguing my adventures by video. I have a bit of a background in video editing, and for a while ran an online business selling a video editing how-to book that I both wrote and published, called The Complete Guide To Better Movie Making. These are just a couple of my personal favourites from recent videos from my travels. They are all shot on my small Canon stills camera, and the footage is then edited in Adobe Premiere:

ONGOING MEDIA INTERVIEWS:

When I first announced that I was going to put my "life" up for sale on eBay, back in March 2008, the world's media went crazy, and in the first week that the website went live, I appeared live on breakfast shows on Australian TV, British TV, and American TV. I was interviewed by newspapers all over the world, and did more live radio interviews than I could count. Often I would be called up out of the blue, and have less than a minute on hold before I was put live on air. It was great fun!

Over the following months the media interest continued, and peaked again during the week of the auction at the end of June, when I appeared live every day for five days on Australian Channel 9 breakfast TV. At the end of the auction itself, there were four TV crews in my front room, including a Japanese documentary team, filming for a Japanese national TV show.

OTHER INFORMATION:

On previous visits to Australia, before moving here over seven years ago to live here, I travelled extensively up and down the east coast of Australia, and I visited the Whitsunday Islands, where Hamilton Island is situated, stopping off to see the stunningly beautiful Whitehaven Beach. I also spent several days diving on the Barrier Reef, on a live-aboard schooner dive charter.

I am currently in the middle of 100 weeks of goal-achievement, but for a job like this, I reckon I am prepared to take a six-month break. I hope I get the opportunity to do so!!

And finally, here's a thought! Wouldn't it make a GREAT story if, prompted by being blindsided by life, the guy who put his whole life up for sale on the internet, in order to make a completely fresh start, ultimately finds himself living a completely new life, and having "The Best Job In The World"?

This is my one minute video application for the job:

"Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits; habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny.."
